If you have never heard about Instagram (but I think you did), is an photo and video sharing social networking. Instagram has chose to change its algorithm, as is owned by Facebook, abandon the chronological order of photos to be replaced by an algorithm displaying the best publications first! The goal of this change is to favorize the quality of your post, it is meaning your content have to be pertinent for the community, your picture is not enough anymore.

The algorithm works like this: when a publication is posted, it will be instantly visible on the news feed of 10% of your community. After one hour, depending on the number of likes, comments, registrations, profile visits received Instagram will deduce if the post liked is relevant or not.

I hope you understood instagram is looking for authenticity, quality and relevance. As a website your post have to be optimized not with keywords but with hashtag:

  • Your hashtags have to be relevant and coherent with your post.
  • It is better to vary those, from one picture to the next, in order to prove Instagram and you are not doing copy/paste from a hashtag list.
  • Choose a lot of hashtags, but not too much. If you put more than twenty hashtags, Instagram will penalize you.
